Pass Scam in Tamil Nadu, Madras HC states those taking bribes are "blood
thirsty wolves"
The Madras HC
recently commented on the epass scam. The HC noted that for as little as 500 -
2000 Rs people were getting epasses made illegally. It has taken serious note
of this issue and observed that government officials who demand bribes for
issuing e-passes are “blood thirsty wolves” who are taking advantage of a
pandemic situation. "They are like the cruel, blood-thirsty wolves, and
should be dealt with an iron fist." The Madras High Court has sought for
stern action to be taken against them.
The bench was
hearing a habeas corpus petition when it took cognizance of the e pass scam. The
petition prayed for a direction to produce in front of the court six girls who
were being kept in the illegal custody of Chenniappa Yarn Spinners Private
Limited as child labourers. The habeas corpus petition also asked to free them.
The government of
Tamil Nadu has informed the Madras High court that a committee will be formed
to streamline the issuance of e-passes for movement in the state and between
states.
The next date of
hearing in the matter is August 20.
